Description
I have reworked this fun coastal landscape painting which was inspired by a picture I saw of the South Venice Jetty in Venice, Florida. The large boulders and rocks are piled high and wrap from the sandy beach out into the Gulf of Mexico to protect the beach from wind and surf. There are actually two jetties, a north in Nokomis and a south in Venice. The two jettys (long rock piers) frame the entrance from the Gulf of Mexico to Roberts Bay north of the center of Venice. South Jetty is part of Higel Marine Park, with toilets, picnic tables, benches, shade trees, parking lots, and plenty of fishing opportunities. Like the Venice beaches, South Jetty is a favorite place to watch the sunset.
In this painting, a person in the foreground has found a spot to sit on a flat-topped boulder and is casting a line out into the Gulf while a group at the end of the jetty are also enjoying a day of fishing. On shore, a sunbather is about to head into the water to cool off. A beach umbrella is nearby to provide shade when she returns.
