Description
During the rainy season in southwest Florida, it's rare to get passed the flooded paths and trails in the Deer Prairie Creek Preserve and other parks along the Myakka River to enjoy the view. This peaceful landscape view through the thick natural vegetation was taken in November when the weather is drier.
The Myakka River in southwestern Florida begins near the Hardee-Manatee county line and meanders through Manatee, Sarasota and Charlotte counties to empty into Charlotte Harbor, an arm of the Gulf of Mexico. According to Wikipedia, the river is 68 miles long. The river remains relatively undeveloped. A twelve-mile stretch of the river is preserved in Myakka River State Park. A thirty-four-mile portion of the river in Sarasota County (including all of the park) was designated as a state Wild and Scenic River in 1985 by the Florida Legislature. There are other natural protected areas along the river, as well, preserving Old Florida's lush vegetation and protecting its willife, unless the gators are active and feeding.
I am an exhibiting artist in southwest Florida and my art has been exhibited in galleries in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina and is in collections nationwide. I create abstract photography, mixed media photo painting, acrylic mixed media, and acrylic paintings. Many would make great decorative throw pillows or shower curtains. I've even had a couple abstracts made into my personal cell phone covers. Please check out my Facebook page Doodleng Art by Sharon Eng for announcements and more information about my art.
