Description
Whitesides trail in Highlands, North Carolina, was fogged in on this overcast, drizzly morning. Even though there was no expansive view, the walk was pleasantly cool and the fog created some beautiful atmosphere. This image has been digitally enhanced by adding a watercolor paint application and other adjustments.
Whiteside Mountain is in the Nantahala National Forest near Highlands, North Carolina. The 750 feet tall cliffs are the highest shear cliffs in the eastern United States. Geologists estimate the mountain to be more than four hundred million years old. The moderate 2-mile loop trail is popular among hikers wishing to enjoy the spectacular views from its summit at 4,930 feet.

Thank you so much, Kay and Brian, for your kind words. It was an unusually cool week in the mountains and, although we didn't enjoy a great view, the fog was lovely in its own way.
