Description
The replica ships Nina and Pinta visited Punta Gorda, Florida, on the southwest coast recently. While touring the two small ships, I looked up and liked the lines and angles of the rigging contrasted against the blue sky.
The Niña is a replica of one of the three ships that brought Columbus and his crew to the New World. The Nina is the ship on which Columbus sailed on his three voyages to North America and the Caribbean beginning in 1492. Columbus sailed the tiny ship over 25,000 miles. The original Nina was last heard of in 1501, but the new replica has a different mission as a floating museum. The Nina and Pinta sail to visit ports all over the Western Hemisphere. The mostly volunteer crew educate the public and school children about the ‘caravel’, a Portuguese ship used by Columbus and many early explorers to discover the world. The ships are operated by The Columbus Foundation which receives no funds from government agencies or private foundations. The foundation is supported entirely by the fees paid to tour the ships.
I am an exhibiting artist in southwest Florida and my art has been exhibited in galleries in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina and is in collections nationwide. I create abstract photography, mixed media photo painting, acrylic mixed media, and acrylic paintings. Many would make great decorative throw pillows or shower curtains. I've even had a couple abstracts made into my personal cell phone covers. Please check out my Facebook page Doodleng Art by Sharon Eng for announcements and more information about my art. This image would be a good selection for business or corporate wall art and decor or in any home.
