Description
It was an overcast, damp day in Highlands, North Carolina, but the flowers beneath the First Presbyterian Church created a lovely foreground for this image. The church sits on a hill overlooking Highland's beautiful Main Street. Established in 1885, First Presbyterian Church is listed on the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior. This image has been digitally enhanced for a painterly effect.
Highlands is a wonderful walkable resort town in the Blue Ridge Mountains. It was founded in 1875 after its two founders, Samuel Truman Kelsey and Clinton Carter Hutchinson, drew lines from Chicago to Savannah and from New Orleans to New York City. They felt that the place where these lines met would eventually become a great trading center and commercial crossroads. Highlands was named for its lofty elevation. The official average elevation within town limits is 4,118 feet (1,255 m), making it one of the highest incorporated municipalities east of the Mississippi River. It's location in the Blue Ridge Mountains makes it an attractive destination of those who enjoy the outdoors and being in nature. Many national forests provide expansive mountain vistas, hiking trails and waterfalls.
I am an award-winning exhibiting artist in southwest Florida and my art has been exhibited in galleries in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina and is in collections nationwide. I create abstract photography, mixed media photo painting, acrylic mixed media, and acrylic paintings. Many would make great decorative throw pillows or shower curtains. I've even had a couple abstracts made into my personal cell phone covers. Please check out my Facebook page Doodleng Art by Sharon Eng for announcements and more information about my art. This image would be a good selection for business or corporate wall art and decor or in any home.
