Description
This humorous oar lock was spotted on a recent trip to Cape Cod. I believe it was on Nantucket, but I can't be sure. The wooden oar lock bracket was painted with a face and could well be the oarsman from a hundred years or more ago. Cape Cod and, especially Nantucket, were founded on fishing and whaling.
Nantucket is one of the two main Cape Cod islands, and sits in the Atlantic just south of Cape Cod. Along with the other popular island of Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket encompasses harbor towns and lighthouses, sandy beaches and quaint shops along the ferry wharfs. It's accessible only by boat or air from the mainland of Cape Cod.
I am an exhibiting artist in southwest Florida (recently relocated from Hendersonville, North Carolina), and my art has been exhibited in galleries in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina and is in collections nationwide. I create abstract photography, mixed media photo painting, acrylic mixed media, and acrylic paintings. Many would make great decorative throw pillows or shower curtains. I've even had a couple abstracts made into my personal cell phone covers. Please check out my Facebook page Doodleng Art by Sharon Eng for announcements and more information about my art.
