Description
My husband is a Mercury fan. When we attended the Sunnyland Classic Boat Show in Tavares, Florida, I couldn't resist capturing an image of this classic antique Kiekaefer logo off of one of the motors.
The Kiekhaefer Mercury company began in 1939 when engineer Carl Kiekhaefer purchased a small outboard motor company in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. He originally intended to make magnetic separators for the dairy industry; however, 300 defective outboard motors were included in the purchase. Thus, the marine industry was changed forever.
In 1961 the company merged with the Brunswick Corporation. The company introduced the MerCruiser stern-drive line at the 1961 Chicago Boat Show. The line would later take over 80 percent of the world market. In 1962, the Merc 1000 became the new top of the line in line 6, offering 100 hp. It was somewhat of a sensation and introduced the new "Phanton Black" paint scheme which soon spread to the entire line and symbolized Mercury motors. Carl Kiekhaefer resigned as President of Kiekhaefer Mercury in 1969, and the name was changed to Mercury Marine.
I am an exhibiting artist in southwest Florida and my art has been exhibited in galleries in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina and is in collections nationwide. I create abstract photography, mixed media photo painting, acrylic mixed media, and acrylic paintings. Many would make great decorative throw pillows or shower curtains. I've even had a couple abstracts made into my personal cell phone covers. Please check out my Facebook page Doodleng Art by Sharon Eng for announcements and more information about my art. This image would be a good selection for business or corporate wall art and decor or in any home.
