North Port, Florida, artist Sharon Eng was honored with a proclamation from the Charlotte County (Florida) Board of County Commissioners for being the Charlotte County Arts and Humanities Council Artist of the Month for November.
Eng’s art was recently on exhibit at the Charlotte Arts Gallery in Town Center Mall in Port Charlotte, Florida. Her paintings and digitally painted photographs can also be seen at Creations at Fisherman’s Village in Punta Gorda, Florida, and beginning December 1 at Venice Island Gallery in Venice, Florida.
“If I had to categorize my style, I think ‘representational abstract’ might fit,” Eng says. “Whether it's in abstract photography or my mixed media paintings, I usually need to visualize something from the natural world - a landscape, beach scene, forest, etc.”
Eng’s photography and paintings are on her website at www.sharon-eng.pixels.com for purchase as prints in many sizes and finishes (now even on wood). She said her art can also be made into decorative pillows, shower curtains, and tote bags, as well as cell phone cases.
Eng is a member of the North Port Art Center, Visual Arts Center and Art Center of Venice and has won awards for her art at all three venues.

Several of Sharon Eng's original are pieces will be in a group exhibit at the new Charlotte Arts Gallery at the Port Charlotte Mall beginning October 4. The exhibit will go through November 8. The reception for the exhibit will be on Sunday, October 21, from 2 pm to 4 pm.
Eng categorizes her style as "representational abstract.” She explains that, in her paintings and abstract photographs, she usually needs to be able to visualize something from the natural world - a landscape, beach scene, forest, etc. Although she had a period where she deviated toward a more traditional style, she is returning lately to what she enjoys most – a more abstracted view of things.
For the most part, Eng is self-taught although she has attended workshops and classes occasionally. She was influenced early on by her mother-in-law, Fort Myers artist Pat Eng LaVigne, to begin exploring mixed media over 25 years ago. Prior to that photography was her creative medium - primarily abstract macro photography. Sometimes she now uses one of her photographs as the background of a painting and builds on it. Generally she creates landscapes and seascapes, but occasionally will end up with something a little different. Eng says she is now exploring the world of digital editing to enhance her photographs and create new images.
The artist works in a variety of media, including watercolor and acrylics, as well as mixed media. Most of her work is small to medium sizes with subjects varying as she travels and comes back filled with images to put to paper.

Many special occasions are coming soon and you will need special cards for your special people. Mother's Day, Father's Day, graduations; not to mention birthdays and anniversaries for family and friends. And what about those close ones who are far away. I have added cover verses and text to many of my original photographs and art works as greeting cards.
Check out my card gallery at https://pixels.com/profiles/sharon-eng.html?tab=artworkgalleries&artworkgalleryid=691899 and https://pixels.com/profiles/sharon-eng.html?tab=artworkgalleries&artworkgalleryid=575051. Many would also make special gifts as mugs or tee shirts. My greeting cards are 5" x 7" (folded) and include white-envelopes for mailing and/or gift giving. Each card is printed on 100-pound paper stock with a UV protectant on the outside surface which produces a semi-gloss finish. Inside has a matte white finish and can be customized with your personal message up to 500 characters.

I just finished installing a solo exhibit of my art at DLW Wealth Management at Merrill Lynch in Punta Gorda. This exhibit is in cooperation with the Visual Arts Center in Punta Gorda. Thanks so much to Stacy Colvino of the VAC for her help in arranging the showing and Jeffrey L Leedy and Logan T Davis at DLW at Merrill Lynch for their invaluable help in getting the art installed. If you are near Punta Gorda (the weather has been splendid so you might want to plan a trip!), the offices are at 1190 West Marion Avenue right by Fisherman's Village. You might want to also stop by Creations at Fisherman's Village where I also exhibit and work occasionally. These are some of the paintings in the exhibit.

So pleased that my mixed media painting The Gathering won 3rd place at the Flights of Fancy exhibition at the Visual Arts Center in Punta Gorda, Florida. There were 100 wonderful entries in 2D and 3D media and a total of eight awards. The piece was created from one of my macro photographs of some markings on a stone which reminded me of a group gathered on a cliff. I used markers and ink to enhance the illusion of trees and figures gathered on a mountaintop. It has a rather somber tone.
This is the second award for this piece. It previously received Honorable Mention at a show at the Sarasota Art Center.
