North Port Fl Artist Featured In One Person Show

North Port – North Port (FL) resident Sharon Eng is the featured artist at the Mid-County Library in Port Charlotte (FL) for July and August. Eng will be showing her original paintings and photography in a one-person exhibition beginning Tuesday, July 2, through Saturday, August 31.

Eng has won numerous awards for her art, including third place in June at the Punta Gorda Visual Arts Center exhibit Water, Water Everywhere.

Eng and her husband relocated to North Port two years ago from Western North Carolina. Although the mountains are a favorite subject for Eng, she has switched now to more coastal themes, more befitting into her current location and their favorite vacation spot on Cape Cod. The artist always has her camera handy while traveling and looks for old, weathered wood, rusty relics and other oddities where she might discover another unique image she can use to create one of her mixed media photography/digital paintings.

Artist Combines Two Passions Into One Art Form

Hendersonville, NC When Hendersonville, NC, artist Sharon Eng couldnt choose between her passion for abstract photography and painting, she decided to marry the two. She now often paints directly onto her photographs with acrylic paint or uses the photos in her mixed media pieces.

I first became interested in photography about 40 years ago in Asheville, Eng said. From the onset, I loved light, shapes and forms. Eng says she rarely take a picture of an entire scene or object and opts for a close up or macro instead, often resulting in an interesting abstract.

To create her photo-painted mixed media pieces, Eng has her abstract macro photographs printed on canvas and adds acrylic paint or paper to create an entirely new mixed media piece. Sometimes the paint is used to just add depth or texture. One painting, To Market, began as a photograph of graffiti on an old metal shed. She says she saw a vision of a Caribbean village and island women carrying wares...
