This was originally a photographic abstract image of fall reflections in a waterlily pond. I usually prefer the "myopic" view and zoomed in on the waterlily pads because of their color. Happily, the greens, bronzes and golds of the turning leaves reflected in the water. The result ended up being very "painterly." I decided to actually turn this image into a "mixed media" painting by enhancing the colors by adding acrylic paints. The foreground lily bud which is just in its early opening stage, was originally only a closed bud and not easily seen. I painted over it to create the white water lily. I feel that the painting gave more of a shimmering reflective quality to the water and gave more pop to the colors.

It is interesting to walk through my images and discover that, even back almost 40 years ago, I was intrigued by light, shapes, and color patterns. Back then I used a 35mm Canon film camera and I find many "abstract" images in my early work. Now I am currently exploring digital art, generally beginning with one of my photographs and seeing what new creations emerge. I consider the computer desktop my canvas and PhotoShop my paints and tools. I find, in my original and digital work, that I am still leaning to abstract. Although I may give a title to the image based on my vision, the interpretation is always up to the viewer. I always hope...
