Description
This assortment of seashells was seen at a shop along the Sponge Docks in Tarpon Springs, Florida (FL). I loved the blue ones amid the bleached white ones. I have no idea if they are natural or not. They were just pretty in the group.
According to the Tarpon Springs Chamber of Commerce, the city was once known as the “Venice of the South,” Tarpon Springs was named for the abundant fish found off its coast and is hailed as the “Sponge Capital of the World.” The oldest town in Pinellas County, Tarpon Springs is located along the Anclote River where it intersects with the Gulf of Mexico. Past Indian history in this beautiful coastal community dates back to the 1800s with the arrival of the first settlers. Tourists flock to the area to see the sponge divers and the variety of sponges that are on display in the numerous gift shops. There is also a huge variety of shells.
