Wychmere Harbor in Harwichport, Massachusetts, is one of the most picturesque harbors on Cape Cod. Even in September, the park is graced by colorful flowers. It presents a very peaceful place to sit and soak in the view.
Harwich is a town known for three harbors. Allen Harbor and Saquatucket Harbor are both natural harbors. But the third and most well-known Harwich harbor, Wychmere, is actually man made. This harbor was once known as Salt Pond and it had no opening to the ocean. In 1887 a channel was dug to the ocean and jetties were built. The new harbor was not named Wychmere until the mid-1920s. Wychmere can translate to "salt lake," because "Wych" is believed to come from the British "wich" meaning where salt is found, and "mere" is Scottish for lake.
Thank you for taking time to visit my gallery. Enjoy the journey and please come back again. It is interesting to walk through my images and discover that, even back almost 40 years ago, I was intrigued by light, shapes, and color patterns. Back then I used a 35mm Canon film camera and I find many "abstract" images in my early work. Now I am currently exploring digital art, generally beginning with one of my photographs and seeing what new creations emerge. I consider the computer desktop my canvas and PhotoShop my paints and tools. I find, in my original and digital work, that I am still leaning to abstract. Although I may give a title to the image based on my vision, the interpretation is always up to the viewer. I always hope...
