Description
This is a digitally enhanced image of my photograph of the fall view from the Whitesides trail in Highlands, North Carolina. Whiteside Mountain is in the Nantahala National Forest near Highlands, North Carolina. The 750 feet tall cliffs are the highest shear cliffs in the eastern United States. Geologists estimate the mountain to be more than four hundred million years old. The moderate 2-mile loop trail is popular among hikers wishing to enjoy the spectacular views from its summit at 4,930 feet.
