Description
Morning broke at the Grand Canyon, Arizona, with a lingering haze, but still an incredible view of the mountains, buttes, and ridges covering the canyon from the South to the North Rims. The trees along the edge of the canyon stand sentry to the millions of years of geologic history in this northern part of Arizona. According to the park's website, the Grand Canyon was granted Federal protection in 1893 as a Forest Reserve and later as a National Monument. It did not achieve National Park status until 1919, three years after the creation of the National Park Service. Today Grand Canyon National Park receives close to five million visitors each year.

Thank you, Ann. You are much braver than I, but I bet you got some spectacular photos, too.

A marvelous capture of this magnificent canyon, Sharon. Brings back memories of riding a mule down to the Colorado River. f/l
