Description
While visiting Door County, Wisconsin, I was delighted to find the Hardy Gallery in Ephraim. According to the gallery's website, the gallery was founded in 1962 by the Peninsula Arts Association (PAA) in honor of Francis Howe Hardy. The Gallery is located on Ephraim's historic Anderson Dock. The Dock was built by brothers Aslag and Halvor Anderson in the late 1850s. The Dock quickly became the business and social center of the community, with the Anderson Warehouse (the Hardy's home) being built around the same time. The Dock and Warehouse hold a lot of meaning for Ephraim residents and visitors alike, not to mention the decades of boaters who would paint their respective vessel's name on the Warehouse's clapboard siding. Many visitors continue the tradition. All of the graffiti and colors make for wonderful photo ops, such as this.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,370 square miles, of which 482 square miles is land and 1,888 square miles (80%) is water. It is the largest county in Wisconsin by total area. The county also has 298 miles of shoreline. Locals and tourists alike refer to the area as the "Cape Cod of the Midwest," probably due to the many picturesque small towns and fishing villages along the shore. The Door County peninsula is a thumb of land that juts off the eastern shore of Wisconsin near Green Bay.
I am an exhibiting artist in southwest Florida and my art has been exhibited in galleries in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina and is in collections nationwide. I create abstract photography, mixed media photo painting, acrylic mixed media, and acrylic paintings. Many would make great decorative throw pillows or shower curtains. I've even had a couple abstracts made into my personal cell phone covers. Please check out my Facebook page Doodleng Art by Sharon Eng for announcements and more information about my art.
