City Solstice

Medium
Painting - Acrylic Mixed Media Painting
Description
Anyone who has driven right into the sun in summer knows what this abstract city landscape represents. The light from the setting or rising sun at sunrise and sunset around the summer solstice can be blinding. Even sunglasses don't help. In this acrylic mixed media painting, dual highway bridges head over an expanse of water - a bay, lake, ocean - into a large city, directly into the light of the sun which seems to fill the sky. The city buildings and skyscrapers are silhouetted against the bright light. This painting is heavily textured with much light and shadows and reflections.
This cityscape landscape is built from my imagination and recollection of many cities I have lived in or visited. It could be any city near a large body of water - Miami, Tampa, Boston, New York, Houston, Detroit, Chicago.

Thank you so much, Judi, for the nice comment. I've lived in several cities where driving was hazardous both to and from work facing into the rising and setting sun. I'm glad you could relate.

I love this fabulous painting -- so well conceived and created! That feeling of driving straight into the sun -- yep, lol! l/f
