Description
This beautiful, cascading waterfall is in the Western North Carolina Mountains in Highlands. Highlands is in the Blue Ridge Mountains which is part of the Appalachian Ridge. Dry Falls is a 65-foot waterfall which flows on the Cullasaja River through the Nantahala National Forest. It is part of a series of waterfalls on an 8.7-mile stretch of the river that eventually ends with Cullasaja Falls further down the mountain toward Franklin. Dry Falls flows over an overhanging bluff that allows visitors to walk up under the falls and remain relatively dry when the water flow is low, hence its name. Visitors still will get wet, however, from some mist and condensation falling from the ceiling and, especially, if the water flow is high. The cool, damp air near the falls gives some welcome relief during the heat of the southern summer. This view was from beneath the falls looking back toward the water flowing like a veil down the rocks. The Appalachian Trail isn't far and hikers enjoy exploring the many waterfalls and natural beauty of this region.
I am an exhibiting artist in southwest Florida and my art has been exhibited in galleries in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina and is in collections nationwide. I create abstract photography, mixed media photo painting, acrylic mixed media, and acrylic paintings. Many would make great decorative throw pillows or shower curtains. I've even had a couple abstracts made into my personal cell phone covers. Please check out my Facebook page Doodleng Art by Sharon Eng for announcements and more information about my art.
